Robert Parker 2020
Christmann's Idig Riesling is one of the stars of the vintage. Also, the Riesling V from the Vogelsang has never been as great as the 2019, which is the first vintage that shows the great potential of this coolish limestone terroir. My favorite Pinot Noir ("Kalkbuckel") comes from a special plot inside the Idig, and it was still not clear how this impressive wine would be marketed or if at all.

94+ 2019 Meerspinne Riesling GG
From a plot inside the Mandelgarten, Christmann's 2019 Meerspinne GG is deep, fine and pure on the complex and stony nose. Round and juicy on the palate, this is an intense and juicy, very complex and sustainable Riesling cru with fine salinity, a seamless and chalky texture and with remarkable finesse and vitality. There are lemon flavors and chalky notes on the firm and persistent finish. Very promising.
96 2019 Idig Riesling GG
The 2019 Idig GG is pure and chalky on the deep, intense, fully ripe yet elegant, refined and lemon-scented nose with its ripe mirabelle aromas. Silky and juicy on the first palate, this is an elegant, very complex, tight and mineral Idig with structure, finesse and well-dosed power. The finish is pure and salty, beautifully citric and very long, with promising grip and tension.

92+ 2018 Idig Spätburgunder GG
The 2018 Idig GG Spätburgunder is refined and aromatic on the pure, spicy and even floral-scented but overall generous nose. Intense, round and fleshy on the palate, this is a warm, smooth, silky-textured, pretty sweetish and all-too-charming Idig with good vitality, purity and tension on the intense and persistent finish. The tannins are firm but finely grained. Promising
94 2018 Kalkbuckel Spätburgunder
From a special plot inside the Idig, of which Sophie and Steffen Christmann were thinking to bottle a third on its own for the first time, the 2018 Idig "Kalkbuckel" Spätburgunder is the finest and most promising Pinot among the Christmann wines. The nose is clear, pure, fresh and spicy, revealing good intensity and depth. Full-bodied, intense and fresh on the palate, with good grip and lingering salinity, this is a somewhat iodine-tinged and tightly structured Pinot and, in fact, is more expressive than the regular Idig, which is perhaps all too warm and charming in 2018? The Kalkbuckel is tight, fresh, grippy and juicy on the tart finish. In fact, this would be the better Idig.
